Veritas, Cohesity and Arctera: What Changes for Your IT Team?

A change in the name on a renewal quotation can raise a surprisingly practical question: who now owns the product, and who should your team call when it needs help?

On 10 December 2024, Cohesity completed its combination with Veritas’ enterprise data protection business. The remaining businesses sit under Arctera. For organisations with both NetBackup and Enterprise Vault, the familiar Veritas estate now crosses two vendor relationships.

The sensible response is to review the operational details before making an architecture decision.

Start with a product and support map

List the products you run, their versions, maintenance dates, contract references and administrator contacts. Identify the vendor responsible for each product and the partner responsible for your local services. Include backup appliances, archiving components and any dependent software.

Your team should be able to answer three questions without searching through old emails: where do we open a case, where do we obtain entitled software, and who owns escalation?

Do the same for renewals. A changed supplier name does not, by itself, explain whether coverage, quantities or service scope have changed. Compare the actual documents.

Separate the roadmap from the immediate workload

NetBackup administrators still need reliable backups and tested restores. Enterprise Vault administrators still need successful ingestion, usable indexes and dependable retrieval. Those operational priorities continue while vendors communicate their future plans.

A merger is a useful reason to ask for a roadmap briefing. It is not sufficient evidence that a working environment needs an immediate migration. Assess any proposed change against supportability, application requirements, recovery objectives and total implementation cost.

For GCC organisations operating across several countries, also establish who coordinates remote support, onsite attendance and procurement. An incident is easier to manage when these responsibilities are agreed in advance.

Keep a familiar technical point of contact

A local specialist can connect the vendor’s product guidance with the customer’s actual environment. That includes understanding the Exchange and SQL dependencies behind an archive, or the storage, networking and application dependencies behind a backup platform.

Virtech supports organisations through these transitions with environment reviews, renewal guidance and professional services across NetBackup and Enterprise Vault. The aim is a clear support map and a practical plan for the existing estate. Learn more about our Arctera and Cohesity partnerships.
