Enterprise Vault Health Check and Assessment
An Enterprise Vault health check gives your team a documented view of platform condition, operational risk and the work required to restore a stable baseline. Virtech reviews the environment across Enterprise Vault services, tasks, message queues, indexing, Vault Stores, storage, SQL, backup and recovery, integrations, search and accelerator components.
The result is a prioritized remediation plan based on evidence from your estate. It can support an upgrade, migration, renewal, audit response, operational handover or a decision to continue running the current architecture.

01
When to commission an Enterprise Vault health check
A health check is useful when the organization needs a reliable baseline rather than another isolated fix. It is commonly commissioned before a material change or when recurring symptoms suggest that several platform components may be involved.
Consider an assessment when:
● An Enterprise Vault upgrade, infrastructure refresh or Microsoft 365 project is being planned.
● Storage, SQL or backup growth is difficult to forecast or explain.
● Archiving queues, indexes, searches or retrievals show recurring delays or failures.
● The platform has not received a structured technical review for an extended period.
● Enterprise Vault knowledge has left the organization or operational ownership is changing.
● A migration or consolidation needs reliable source data, risk identification and sequencing.
● High availability and disaster-recovery assumptions have not been checked against current architecture and recovery procedures.
● Management, audit, legal or compliance teams need a documented view of archive-platform risk and ownership.
A health check does not certify legal or regulatory compliance, and it does not replace a tested recovery exercise. It establishes technical facts, exposes gaps and gives the responsible teams a practical sequence for remediation and validation.
02
What the assessment covers
The final scope reflects the installed version, architecture, enabled workloads and the reason for the review. Virtech agrees the evidence sources and access method before work begins. A typical assessment covers the following areas.
Platform and services
Enterprise Vault servers, service state, task configuration, schedules, event evidence, dependencies and administrative condition.
Tasks and MSMQ
Archive-task behavior, relevant Microsoft Message Queuing backlogs, queue trends and upstream or downstream dependencies.
Indexing and search
Index locations, volume state, pending work, failed or offline conditions, capacity, search symptoms and monitoring evidence.
Vault Stores and storage
Vault Store groups, partitions, safety-copy behavior, capacity, availability, storage dependencies and growth concerns.
SQL
Database placement, capacity, transaction-log condition, maintenance alignment, backup status, resilience and performance indicators relevant to Enterprise Vault.
Backup and recovery
Backup mode, coverage of databases, partitions and index locations, operational procedures, recovery dependencies and evidence of testing.
Exchange and Microsoft 365
Archiving and journaling integrations, target configuration, connectivity dependencies and current operational symptoms.
Retention and access
Retention configuration, expiry dependencies, archive access, provisioning, permissions and relevant governance controls.
Accelerators and search
Discovery Accelerator, Compliance Accelerator and Enterprise Vault Search components that are present and within the agreed scope.
Architecture and lifecycle
Version, operating system, SQL, Exchange, storage and resilience dependencies that affect supportability, upgrades or modernization.
Services tasks and MSMQ
Enterprise Vault uses Microsoft Message Queuing to transfer work between components. Queue growth is therefore evidence of unfinished work, not a diagnosis by itself. Virtech reviews task state, schedules, throughput, queue behavior, event evidence and dependent systems to identify where work is slowing or stopping.
The assessment does not recommend clearing queues merely to remove a visible backlog. Any corrective action must account for the purpose of the queue, outstanding work, recovery options and the cause of the buildup. Changes are handled through the customer’s agreed change and escalation process.
Indexing storage and SQL
Index health affects search, discovery and the ability to retrieve complete results. The review considers index-location state, pending work, capacity, failed or offline volumes, monitoring evidence and symptoms reported by users or administrators. Virtech relates those findings to Vault Store, storage and SQL conditions where the evidence indicates a dependency.
SQL review focuses on the databases and maintenance practices that support Enterprise Vault. Relevant checks can include space and transaction-log condition, backup coverage, database maintenance, resilience design and indicators of inefficient or delayed processing. Recommendations are checked against the installed Enterprise Vault and SQL versions before implementation.
Backup high availability and recovery
A successful backup job does not by itself prove that the archive can be recovered. Enterprise Vault backup and recovery depend on coordinated coverage of databases, Vault Store partitions, index locations and other relevant configuration or data. The assessment reviews how backup mode and safety copies are handled, how failures are detected and whether recovery procedures reflect the current estate.
Where high availability or disaster recovery is in scope, Virtech maps the relevant Enterprise Vault, SQL, storage, network and identity dependencies. Recovery-point and recovery-time objectives remain customer decisions. A separate controlled recovery test may be recommended when documentary evidence cannot demonstrate recoverability.

How the Enterprise Vault health check works
1
Confirm the objective
We agree whether the assessment is supporting stability, an upgrade, a migration, a renewal, a handover or another defined decision.
2
Define scope and access
We document the sites, servers, components, integrations, evidence sources, access method, contacts and change restrictions.
3
Collect evidence
Virtech reviews agreed configuration, health, event, capacity, queue, index, database, storage and backup information. Customer interviews provide operational context.
4
Validate the findings
We distinguish confirmed conditions from symptoms, assumptions and items that need further testing. Material findings are checked with the relevant technical owner.
5
Prioritize the work
Each finding records its evidence, impact, recommended action, dependencies and suggested sequence. Ownership and target timing are agreed with the customer.
6
Present and hand over
Virtech delivers a technical readout and an executive summary, answers questions and agrees whether remediation, upgrade planning, migration discovery or ongoing support should follow.
04
Health check deliverables
The deliverables are designed to support action after the review. The exact format and depth are agreed in the statement of work, but a typical engagement provides:
● An executive summary of platform condition, material risks and recommended decisions.
● A technical findings register with the affected component, evidence, impact and recommended remediation.
● A prioritized action plan that separates urgent stabilization from planned improvement.
● Named customer owners or owner roles, dependencies and an agreed remediation sequence.
● Quick wins that can be completed safely under normal change control.
● Strategic recommendations for upgrade, resilience, capacity, operating model, migration or modernization where the evidence supports them.
● A technical readout and handover session for the relevant infrastructure, messaging, database, storage, backup and governance teams.
Virtech can provide sanitized examples of report structures where confidentiality and customer obligations allow. Findings remain specific to the assessed environment and should not be reused as a generic certification of another estate.
05
From findings to remediation
A useful assessment separates observation from action. Virtech records the evidence for each material finding, explains the operational or project impact and identifies prerequisites before recommending a change. The final sequence accounts for dependencies between Enterprise Vault, SQL, storage, backup, Exchange or Microsoft 365 and accelerator components.
Virtech can then support the approved remediation, upgrade or migration work. Customers may also use the report with their internal teams or other authorized providers. Any implementation is separately scoped so the assessment does not imply that every recommendation has already been approved or completed.
06
Delivery access and production impact
The health check can be delivered onsite across the UAE and remotely across the GCC. The agreed approach depends on security policy, connectivity, architecture and the evidence that must be reviewed. Virtech identifies the required access and responsible customer contacts before collection begins.
Evidence gathering is designed to avoid unnecessary change to the production environment. Some diagnostic collection or validation may create load or require elevated access, so those activities are planned and approved with the customer. The health check does not include destructive queue actions, unapproved configuration changes or a disaster-recovery test unless they are explicitly scoped and controlled.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How long does an Enterprise Vault health check take?
Duration depends on the number of sites, servers, Vault Stores, indexes, integrations and accelerator components, as well as access and evidence availability. Virtech confirms the scope and schedule after an initial discovery discussion.
Can the health check be completed remotely?
Yes. Virtech provides remote delivery across the GCC and onsite delivery across the UAE. The delivery model is agreed according to security policy, connectivity, required interviews and the evidence that must be collected.
What access does Virtech require?
Access depends on the agreed scope. Virtech documents the required consoles, reports, logs, configuration data and customer contacts before work begins. The customer retains control of access approval, credential handling and change authorization.
Will the assessment affect production?
The review is planned to minimize production impact and begins with evidence collection rather than configuration change. Some diagnostic or validation activities may create load or need elevated access. Virtech identifies these activities in advance and follows the customer’s change and approval process. No zero-impact guarantee should be inferred.
How is confidential information handled?
The engagement defines the evidence to be collected, where it can be stored, who can access it and how it will be transferred or removed. Reports avoid unnecessary personal or message content. Customer names and environment details are not published without customer-specific written permission.
Is a health check required before an upgrade or migration?
It is not a universal product requirement. A structured assessment is valuable when the project team lacks a current baseline or when unresolved platform risks could affect planning, testing, reconciliation or rollback. The project scope should determine the depth of review required.
Can Virtech fix the issues it finds?
Yes. Virtech can scope remediation, support, upgrade, migration or managed-service work after the findings are reviewed and approved. Remediation is separate from the assessment unless the statement of work explicitly combines them.
